Are Enhanced Diamonds Worth Buying?

Are Enhanced Diamonds Worth BuyingIf you are looking to buy diamonds for yourself or someone important in your life, you may not realise that there are two different types of diamonds available – natural diamonds and enhanced diamonds like those available from Dianer Diamonds.  Although they are both mined, cut and polished from the ground, that’s where the similarities end.

The interesting thing is that despite the extra work that seemingly goes into preparing and producing enhanced diamonds they are actually much cheaper compared to natural diamonds.  If you are new to enhanced diamonds, in the following article we will briefly discuss some of the enhancement methods used and other benefits for choosing them besides cost, for choosing them instead of their natural counterparts.

What Are The Different Enhancement Methods Use?

There are several different treatments used to enhance diamonds to reduce or remove naturally occurring flaws in their appearance.  Clarity enhanced diamonds for instance are treated using either fracture filling or laser drilling, while HPHT or high-pressure high-temperature treatment is used to enhance the colour of a diamond.

Other Benefits As Well As Cost

Initial Appearance

When diamonds are enhanced using fracture filling there is a notable difference in the appearance of the stone and many of the naturally-occurring flaws vanish without a trace.  When bleaching solutions are injected into stones, secondary colours are often removed to enhance the primary colour.

There are also a few downsides that you should consider before choosing enhanced diamonds over natural diamonds.

Downsides

The Cleaning

Unlike natural diamonds, you can’t use many of the chemical jewellery cleaners available at the moment because they contain ammonia, which can detrimentally affect enhanced diamonds.  It is also important to keep in mind that if you normally have your jewellery cleaned at a jewellery store, that the filler used to fix imperfections in enhanced stones can be deteriorated because of the steam they use.

Repairs

If you are prone to forgetting to remove your jewellery before you perform manual labour, work out or play sports you could damage it.  Repairs can range from a simple polishing to retipping.  However, the problems start if you neglect to tell the jeweller that the diamond is enhanced, they may repair the enhancements and you will be left with a very different looking stone when you go back to collect it.

As some repair work requires a jeweller to heat the metal to make it easier to work with, the increase in temperature can affect the look of an enhanced stone.

Re-polishing is another type of repair that can cause damages to enhanced diamonds.  Depending on the filler used in enhanced diamonds, re-polishing can actually remove some of the filler from the surface of the stone, leaving them with a pitted appearance.

Although these downsides may sound very serious, they should not put you off buying enhanced diamonds, like those from Dianer Diamonds, if that is really the type of stone you are looking for; but, rather they are just things you need to consider before and after you buy them.
