How to Get Your Skin Summer Ready in 3 Simple Steps

The best thing about summer is that it means dresses, shorts and skirts. All day, every day! The worst thing about this is that our skin may not exactly be ready to be bared to all. We all want to let our skin breathe during the sunnier months, but there’s always a little bit of underlying anxiety. Dry skin, flaky bits, unshaven bits, wobbly bits. These are all things we think about when it’s time to don the bikini. Never fear! Here are 3 simple steps to help get your skin summer ready.

Step 1: You are what you eat (and drink)

The first thing you’re going to want to do is take a look at your diet. If you find that you’re prone to skin problems, then it could be something to do with what you’re eating. Or not eating. Even the smallest change in your lifestyle can make a big difference to your skin. So, make those changes now! Avoid too much sugary and greasy food. This can cause outbreaks and oily areas all over your skin. Stick to fresh fruit and vegetables, to keep your skin looking fresh. You should also make sure you’re getting plenty of water. Dehydration is a significant cause of dry and flaky skin. Drinking plenty of water will keep your skin looking fresh and youthful. It’s also a must when the weather heats up.

Step 2: Prepping your skin

While your new diet works its magic, it’s time to prepare your skin for its summer debut on the world. There are a few things you’re going to want to do here, so we’ve broken them down to make it easier.

  • Cleansing and toning – It’s a good idea to put together a proper skincare routine if you don’t already have one. Our skin is going to be a lot sweatier during the summer months, which means it needs the right cleansing and toning. Make sure you have a routine and products you’re happy with.
  • Exfoliating – Dry weather means dry skin. Make sure you’re getting rid of all those patchy bits by exfoliating once a week. This will also help you get an even tan!
  • De-hair – Most people don’t want their body hair on display when they’re walking around in skirts or shorts. IPL treatment is a good idea if you want something that will last. If not, it’s time to dig out that razor!
  • Moisturize – Finally, make sure you keep your skin supple and smooth. A good moisturiser will become your hero product of the summer. No more dry patches or flaky bits.

Step 3: Protect

Finally, the most important step in your summer skin routine. Not only can it stop you from aging well before your time, but it can also prevent conditions such as skin cancer. It really is a life-saver! You should never leave the house without sunscreen on, even if it doesn’t appear to be particularly sunny. The sun can penetrate clouds and cause damage to your skin, without you noticing. Don’t forget to keep your head and eyes protected too. Sunstroke is never fun and neither is squinting to see your friends. Always keep a hat and sunnies on you, during the summer months.

There you have it! Just 3 simple steps to ensure your skin is summer ready. Now to dig out all of those skirts, shorts and bikinis.
