The Hottest Fashion Trends for Spring 2015

Best-Street-Style-Fashion-Week-Spring-2015[1]It’s been a long winter, but it’s finally starting to feel like spring is in the air. If you take a sojourn into the countryside this February you’ll see the first lambs frolicking in the fields, pale spring flowers starting to unfurl, and maybe even a few tentative rays of spring sunshine dappling the ground. A new season is on the horizon, and you know what that means, don’t you? Yes, it’s time to set aside your gloomy winter wardrobe and stock up on some brand new spring essentials.

To help you make the right choices, here are some of the hottest fashion trends of spring 2015…

Gingham Grunge

Gingham has always been a feature of spring fashion, but this year designers are taking it in a new direction. Far from being sweet, twee and pastel coloured, gingham circa 2015 is monochrome, charcoal and white, or navy and cream, with sheer accents and street credentials. Wear it top and bottom with red lipstick and slicked back hair, or go for something a little less dramatic by teaming it with a leather biker jacket, denim jeans and black Chelsea boots.

70s’ Sophistication

Subtle odes to the 70s have also been lighting up the catwalk this season. Although designers have avoided full-fledged bell-bottoms, gentle, sophisticated flares teamed with crop tops and wedges have been seen everywhere from Jason Wu to Coach. The colour palette of the 70s has also made a comeback, so expect to start pairing beige and navy bottoms with bright spring pastels, baby blues, lavender and white.

Suave Suede

Velvet might have been winter 2014’s hottest material, but now suede looks set to steal its crown. Although it’s not considered a typical spring staple, the look has been given a seasonal update with bright pops of coloured goodness: look for it in lilac, powder blue and mint green, or turn traditional spring fashion benchmarks on their head and go for autumnal shades like deep red and mustard yellow. Dresses and skirts will prove the easiest ways to wear it for those lacking legitimate high-fashion credentials.

Statement Stripes

Stripes make a seasonal appearance on almost every spring runway, but this year designers have managed to shake things up a little. From Victoria Beckham to Peter Som, the big names played around, experimenting with every type of stripe you can imagine: minimal, wide, parallel and curved designs have all made an appearance. The high street frontrunner has to be Peacocks, whose spring collection features a dazzling array of innovatively coloured and patterned striped styles.

Safari Styling

Spring is a time when many of us start to plan our summer holidays, with thoughts of endless sunshine, delicious heat and far-flung landscapes never far from our minds. Perhaps this was the inspiration behind another of the season’s hottest trends: safari styling. Emulate the sophisticated aesthetic of 1920s explorers with svelte trench-dresses, wide-brimmed hats, khaki shirts, and slim leather belts to cinch in your waist.
