With summer well and truly behind us, it’s time to start looking at ways to update our look. While clothes are a given, many women forget the importance of updating their make up for the winter. Summer makeup trends are all about looking natural, fresh and lovely. Of course, this is also the same for winter. But, this year there is going to be a strong focus on bold and striking makeup.
Are you keen to look good this winter? Here are the top makeup trends for winter 2014.
1. Scarlet is Out: Bold Lip Trends
Red and pink tones have dominated the lipstick scene for the last couple of years. The great thing about these colours is that there is a shade to suit everyone. Dark red lips have taken prominence this year. But, as we go into winter, lipstick is going to become darker and more gothic. For those who want to unleash their inner rock goddess, this is the perfect place to start.
While eyes are going to dominate the makeup scene this winter, there are some essential lipstick trends that you cannot avoid. Dark purples and luscious berry tones are going to look sublime at this year’s Christmas parties. But, there is also going to be a lot of focus on nude tones. Choose a shade slightly darker than your natural skin tone for maximum impact. The great thing about lipstick is that you don’t have to splurge on an expensive brand. Cheap cosmetics, in terms of lipsticks, can still give you that much-needed wow-factor this year.
Make sure that you are using lip salves and petroleum jelly on your lips. The harsh winter weather will cause them to chap and dry out. Always make sure your lips are in kissable condition before you apply lipstick.
2. Smoky Eyes
Smoky eyes are a firm favourite with everyone. Summer has seen the dominance of the cat flick eyeliner look. But, for autumn and winter, eyes are going to become smokier. Apply grey shimmers and black eyeshadow for maximum impact. A flick of black kohl on your under eyes is the best way to perfect this look. Lashings of mascara will make you look perfect. Smoky eyes are back, and they are sexier than ever.
3. Bronze, Bronze, Bronze
Summer is all about pretty pink blusher, but winter is where we all crave our summer glow. Ditch the fake tan and sunbeds and keep it classy with subtle hints of bronzer. Bronzer is the best way to achieve that much-craved summer look. In the winter, we are all prone to looking somewhat more pale than usual. A couple of swipes of bronzer will make us look sun-kissed and gorgeous this winter. Use sparingly, as you don’t want to look orange.
4. Strong Eyebrows
Strong eyebrows are here to stay. Gone are the days of pencil-thin eyebrows. We have Cara Delevingne to thank for that. Striking, thick eyebrows are a key trend this year. Buy a complimenting eyebrow mascara and use sparingly. Your eyebrows will have definition, without looking too over the top.
