So, you want to emulate the stars of Bollywood. There are lots of great Indian clothes at Nihal Fashions. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that all the clothes will be suitable. There are many things you need to consider before you rush out and buy those beautiful and traditional Indian clothing.
Your Body Type
As you are probably aware, everyone has different bodies. Not just in terms of size, but shape too. It’s therefore important, if you are looking to find ethnic clothing that will fit properly that you understand your own body type properly and choose clothing, whether it’s dresses or something else, to match. Body types are classified broadly as being hourglass, rectangular/straight, pear and apple.
There are various guides online that can help you understand what your body is classified as.
The Right Fabric
One you have determined what your body type is, you need to then figure out which type of fabric looks best on you. While some fabrics look great on a mannequin or on that Bollywood actress or model you’ve seen in the magazines, online or on the TV, it doesn’t necessarily translate that they will look nice on you.
If you are very slim and petite, it is best to look at fabrics and materials like silk, linen and cotton that will add volume and emphasise your shape appropriately. However, if you are bigger sized, you really need to avoid fabrics that give you a shapeless shift or that are too ‘fluffed up’ in appearance. These materials may make you look wider than you really are. Instead, look for clothing and dresses made from satin, crepe and georgette, as these fall more gracefully on your body.
Pay Attention to the Fit
If you are getting a dress with stitching involved, make sure that it fits you in a flattering way. A garment that does not fall well or fits you poorly will not make you shine, especially in traditional Indian clothing. It won’t matter if you have the most gorgeous hair and have impeccably applied makeup and all the trimmings, you’ll not look as spectacular as you hope you would.
Don’t Just Copy What Others Do
Although it’s tempting to see something on someone else and buy a similar outfit for yourself, try to avoid doing this. Unless, of course, you know it suits you. Remember what we said earlier about body types. Everyone is different. You need to look for what suits you best.
